Con esta documentación, explicaré con una pequeña demostración en cómo podemos proteger un sitio web que utiliza el CMS (Sistema de Gestión de Contenidos) llamado WordPress con el archivo .htaccess. Personalmente utilizo éste método para la protección de mis sitios web debido a que todos son con WP. Sin embargo, dicho archivo no solo sirve para proteger CMS como WordPress, Joomla o Drupal debido a que también sirve para aplicarlo con cualquier sitio web con o sin CMS.
El archivo .htaccess es un archivo de configuración de texto oculto que se utiliza en sitios web alojados en servidores web con Apache. Este permite al propietario del sitio web controlar el comportamiento del servidor y también permite proteger el sitio web mediante parámetros de configuración y cortafuegos 7G/8G.
Proteger el archivo wp-login.php
Todos quienes usamos WordPress como sitio web o blog, sabemos con exactitud que para accesar al panel de administración o para registrar un usuario, se ocupa el uso del archivo wp-login.php. Por lo tanto, es muy pero muy importante aplicar medidas de seguridad para proteger ese archivo en contra de lammers o ciberdelincuentes que buscan vulnerar o «hackear» para dañar o robar un sitio o blog con WordPress.
Con el archivo .htaccess podemos proteger ese archivo aplicando parámetros de configuración para denegar el acceso al archivo wp-login.php a todo el mundo y excepcionar el acceso solo a los que están permitidos mediante dirección IP o subred para la administración de wordpress. Aquí les paso un ejemplo:

GeoIP o Geolocalización por IP, es una técnica para determinar la ubicación geográfica de un dispositivo basándose en su dirección IP (Protocolo del Internet). En esencia, es un sistema que mapea una dirección IP o un Subred a una ubicación geográfica específica, como un país, una región, una ciudad, etc.
Para poder aplicar la protección mediante geolocalización por IP en el archivo .htaccess, lo primero que se debe de hacer es instalar el módulo de GeoIP para Apache. Debido mi caso, el Apache (Servidor Web) que estoy usando, está instalado en Debian Linux; por ende, se debe utilizar los repositorios .deb para su instalación de la siguiente manera:
apt install libapache2-mod-geoipLuego, debemos abrir el archivo /etc/apache2/mods-available/geoip.conf y des-comentar la línea GeoIPDBFile de la siguiente manera:

systemctl restart apache2.serviceEntonces, con GeoIP puedes aplicarlo ya sea por código del país o por su nombre, por lo tanto, en mi caso personal para la protección de mis sitios web con WP, aplico el mapeo de los países por su código, ejemplos: GB = Gran Bretaña, IR = República Islámica de Irán, US = Estados Unidos, HN = Honduras, etc.
Una vez teniendo habilitado y configurado el módulo GeoIP para Apache, en el archivo .htaccess del sitio web, podemos aplicar su configuración para el mapeo por código de los paises de la siguiente manera:

Otra forma en que también aplico la configuración para la protección de mis sitios web con el archivo .htaccess es mediante direcciones IP o Subnets (Subredes) de la siguiente manera:

</RequireAll>Como pueden observar, lo que hago es permitir a todos el acceso de navegación del sitio web o del CMS con el parámetro «Require all granted» y luego denegar con el parámetro «Require not ip ……»; en los puntos suspensivos pueden ser direcciones IP con la máscara de 32 bits o pueden ser subredes con sus respectivas máscaras de red.
Protección con Cortafuegos 7G/8G
Por último, además de proteger el archivo wp-login.php, proteger el sitio o blog con Direcciones IP o Subnets, y también con GeoIP, otra forma muy elemental que aplico para la protección de mis sitios web es mediante la aplicación de Cortafuegos 7G y/o 8G en el archivo .htaccess.
Los cortafuegos 7G y/o 8G, son sistemas de seguridad web de capa 7, diseñados para proteger sitios web o CMS contra cualquier tipo de amenazas como XSS, inyección SQL o bots maliciosos. Estos firewalls se implementan en el nivel del servidor web con Apache o Nginx, y funcionan filtrando el tráfico entrante antes de que llegue a la aplicación web.
Por acá comparto las reglas y expresiones regulares de un cortafuego 8G que tengo aplicado para la protección de uno de mis sitios web.
